We all tend to take our keys and locks for granted. If the lock works when we turn the key, we don’t think twice about it. Chances are you don’t give your house or car keys a second thought either, until you forget where you left them or you drop your car key through a drain cover when you’re about to get into your car – you’ll be surprised how often that happens. 

You don’t have to wait until something goes wrong, of course. So for instance, if you keep all your keys on a key rack just inside the front door or on a bowl on that table in the hallway (both typical places to store keys) then you’re asking for trouble. Burglars and opportunist thieves know where to look and can easily open the door and help themselves to your car key. If the door’s locked, they’ll ring the bell on some pretence and while you’re distracted, grab a key for later. Don’t make it easy for them and make sure you keep your keys out of sight!

When they’re out and about, burglars are always looking for a way into your home or commercial property. They know an old or weak lock on a door or window when they see one, so if you’ve had those locks for some years, it’s definitely worth having them replaced.
